Exploring Colorful Titles: Top Ten Tuesday's Creative Take on Book Covers

This week serves up another engaging installment of Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. The theme is "Colors in Book Titles." Given a recent topic covering Autumnal covers, I opted for this vibrant twist, challenging myself to explore book titles encompassing color themes.

1. Scarlet - Marissa Meyer

The title "Scarlet" serves double duty as both a character name and a shade of red. While I ventured into The Lunar Chronicles, this particular title stood out as my favorite, especially when compared to its predecessor, Cinder. However, I confess that I never completed the series, as the subsequent books felt daunting, and my interest waned.

2. The Rose Code - Kate Quinn

Transitioning to a shade of pink, "The Rose Code" is another favorite. This was my first experience with Kate Quinn's work, and while I've enjoyed her other novels, none have matched the brilliance of this debut for me. It's one that continues to resonate long after reading.

3. Red Queen - Victoria Aveyard

"Red Queen" falls into the standard YA fantasy tropes. The initial book provided a fun escapade, yet the series took a sharp turn in quality, leading me to abandon it after book two. Still, it fits nicely within the colors theme, don't you think?

4. Between Shades of Grey - Ruta Sepetys

Now let's talk about "Between Shades of Grey." While I struggle with the American spelling, I hold this poignant tale dear to my heart. With its beautiful narrative of despair and hope during a heartbreaking era, the book deserves all the accolades it receives. I do recognize the film adaptation's title change, which had its reasons, considering the potential confusion with another well-known title.

5. Blue Lily, Lily Blue - Maggie Stiefvater

In the case of "Blue Lily, Lily Blue," my recollection is hazy. I adored The Raven Cycle, but details about this particular plot escaped me over time. The characters remain vivid, but the storyline has faded into the background. Nonetheless, I believe there’s a clever thematic mirroring involved, reflecting the book's title.

6. The Blue Roan Child - Jamieson Findlay

Another throwback from my childhood, "The Blue Roan Child" is memorable only for its equine elements. Though I cannot recall much of the plot, its fit with the color theme is undeniable!

7. The Silvered Serpents - Roshani Chokshi

Admittedly, the word "silvered" could be seen as bending the rules slightly, but I'm lifting it anyway! It's a series I haven’t completed, and time has muddled my memory of the events within the storyline. A refresher on the synopsis is overdue to rekindle my interest!

8. Black Beauty - Anna Sewell

It’s impossible to overlook "Black Beauty," still a beloved childhood classic. Somehow, this intertwining of horses and riveting storytelling managed to pierce my usual aversion to Victorian literature. Perhaps it was the compelling themes and horse-oriented charm!

9. The Golden Spoon - Jessa Maxwell

Here’s one that may also flirt with the edges of the theme: "The Golden Spoon." I had high hopes for this title, combining the allure of a baking competition with a murder mystery. Regrettably, it didn't meet my expectations, leaving me a bit disappointed despite the promising premise.

10. The Priory of The Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon

Finally, we arrive at "The Priory of The Orange Tree." While the title alludes to fruit, it also captures the essence of color. This epic fantasy tale clocks in at a hefty 800 pages, an impressive feat for any reader. Although I typically shy away from lengthy books, I found enjoyment in the intricate characters and story, despite some slower sections. It might just be that Shannon’s Bone Season series resonates with me more profoundly in this genre.

So, that's my list of books that include colors in their titles! I hope you found this as enjoyable to read as I did to create. I'd love to hear your thoughts: have you read any of these titles? What did you think of them? Feel free to share in the comments below!

I'll be back next week for another round of Top Ten Tuesday, where we'll discuss "Things That Make Up My Perfect Day." Sounds like a fun topic to explore!
